Gary & Laura Griffin Return as 2023 Missionaries

Thursday, July 27 will be Missionary Day at Imperial Valley Holiness Camp.  Gary and Laura have become a part of our IVHA family over the years, and we are always blessed to get to spend time with them.  We invite you to come get to know them and learn more about what they do in Honduras.

Gary and Laura Griffin
World Gospel Mission Missionaries to Honduras

Gary and Laura came to Jesus later in life. They moved from Ohio, where they had lived all their lives, to Iowa. While in Iowa they attended Vennard College from 2005 through graduation in 2008. During their time at Vennard, they received a call to serve Jesus in Honduras and that is where they have served since 2010. While in Honduras Gary and Laura have worked at El Sembrador, a Christian boarding high school and bilingual elementary school. El Sembrador also has a large farm of nearly 2,000 acres and this is where Gary works in the large machine repair shop. Laura teaches in local public one-room schools. Her current work includes teaching English as a foreign language and also helping children improve their Spanish reading skills. Both Gary and Laura love mentoring and discipling adults and their work in Honduras provides the perfect opportunities for this.

Originally from Abilene, Kansas, Rob Schmutz is a traveling Evangelist in The Church of the Nazarene.  As an Evangelist, Rob has a passion for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and helping people find faith, hope, healing and deliverance through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and a life surrendered completely to God’s Holy Spirit.  As a 30-year veteran pastor, Rob also consults with pastors and congregations regarding local Church growth, renewal and revitalization possibilities, and works with Pastors, Churches and Communities in local evangelistic outreach missions and activities.

In 1989, Rob had a dramatic conversion experience in which he was delivered from a self-destructive lifestyle of alcohol and drug abuse.  In 1991, Rob graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Kansas State University, and in 1996 he completed his Seminary education with a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary.  In 1998 he was awarded the “Harry Denman Evangelism Award” and in 1999 was inducted into “The Order of the Flame,” an evangelistic association of the World Methodist Council.  Since July of 1992 Rob had been a United Methodist pastor, and had been an Ordained Elder in the UMC since June of 2000.  On June 13th of 2015, Rob surrendered his credentials with the UMC as he took a stand on an issue regarding Scriptural Authority, Scriptural Holiness and the Sanctity of Marriage.  Rob has been a licensed Pastor with The Church of The Nazarene since July of 2015, and an Ordained an Elder and a Registered Evangelist in the Church of the Nazarene since July of 2016.

In his ministerial career, Rob has served rural, urban, and suburban churches, and as an Evangelist has preached revivals and spoken at events and retreats in Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Colorado, Kentucky, Texas and California.  From (2011-2015) Rob was the pastor of the United Methodist Church at Park City, a thriving and rapidly growing New Church Start on the North-East side of Wichita, KS.   Currently, Rob and his wife Angel live with their family in rural Reno county, KS.

Julie & Mike are a husband and wife duo out of Norfolk, NE.  Julie is the driving force with her strong vocals and rhythm guitar, while Mike plays the keyboard and adds harmony to their classic country and country gospel music.  They have performed all across Nebraska and into South Dakota and Iowa.

Julie provides music therapy at care centers and senior centers within a 200-mile radius and Mike teaches Industrial Technology at a local High School.  Together they play for dances, music festivals, and state and county fairs.  Their greatest joy is sharing the love of the Lord with others through music and their story.

We hope that you will join us for this concert and bring a friend!  This will be the first night of camp and we will continue through Sunday, July 31, 2022.  This will be an opportunity to deepen your relationship with the Lord as well as connect with friends old and new!  Everyone is welcome!

WGM Missionaries Bob and Lisa Margaron July 2022

Bob and Lisa Margaron

Bob: I was raised in a home filled with alcoholism and violence. Following in the footsteps of my parents, I became addicted to drugs by the age of 12. After dropping out of school and “doing my own thing” for many years, I came to the end of my rope. I cried out to God, and He rescued me from an attempted suicide. I then went to Oakland Peniel Mission and graduated from the one-year residential recovery program. I began searching for what God would have me do with my life. I met Lisa, a Peniel missionary, and we were married in 1995.

I joined Lisa in Stockton, California, serving the children, youth, and families on the south side. In 1996, I was given an appointment with WGM as a missionary. I was ordained in 1998. In 2007, I was privileged to become a Stockton Police chaplain. I am also a Stockton Police school resource chaplain, assigned to three schools in our area. I am humbled that God has chosen me to take His love to children and families who are in the same position I was in as a child.

Lisa: I became a Christian when I was 17 years old. After high school, I attended Vennard College (Iowa). After returning home to California, I continued to seek God’s direction in my life, wanting to serve Him wherever He could use me. In 1988, God called me to the mission field. I applied with WGM and was assigned to Honduras. I spent one year in language school in Costa Rica and then went to Honduras.

However, I was a missionary in turmoil, and I began to realize that I was not serving the people God had called me to. After eight months in Honduras, I transferred to Los Angeles Peniel. I knew I was doing the work God wanted me to. After two years in LA, I was asked if I would consider transferring to Stockton. I felt God directing me and began working here in 1994. After working a year by myself, I married Bob, thus doubling our staff! I am privileged to serve God in Stockton. He has led in so many ways over my life. He has been faithful, and I know He will continue to be.
